Each year there’s an overabundance of quality music released but it’s nearly impossible to sit down and really absorb it all. The radio beats you over the head with the same 40 tracks all year while many online publications and popular blogs only cover the fresh batch of buzz bands that are up “next”. What about the music that slips through the cracks and can only be found in some dark, distant corner of the micro blogosphere? That’s the kind of music that often gets overlooked, which is why we started Keep On Repeat in the first place. We want to recognize the artists that are pushing their music beyond the creative boundaries without conforming to what’s considered the norm by everyone else. Whether it’s a lead single, deep album cut, bonus track or a b-side, the way we look at it, a great song is a great song. Below we have compiled a list of our top 50 songs from this past year. The songs featured on our list exhibit a wide array of artists, labels, genres, and influences, but they all share one thing in common: originality.
