Photay – Photay (EP)
11 September | | instrumental

New York producer Photay released his self-titled EP earlier this week, a project I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while now. Lead by two strong singles, Reconstruct and No Sass, Photay’s production style stems from an early obsession with Aphex Twin, a trip to West Africa during his teenage years, and the eclectic styles of his Astro Nautico/LuckyMe peers. Premiered by Impose Magazine, Photay’s EP is amongst the most experimental releases of 2014 and warrants a few good listens from any bass head. Stream/purchase Photay’s self-titled Astro Nautico debut in full below.

Therm G is taken from Napolian’s stellar Incursio, which is available now via Software Recording Company.

Yung AOL – Swim Team Kush (Album)
4 September | | instrumental

For Brooklyn label Astro Nautico’s first official cassette release, they recruited unidentified producer Yung AOL of the Swim Team crew. Running in the same circle as producers Color Plus, Rambow, Lord $M$, Kanyon and AceMo, AOL and his peers are nothing more than a group of friends making lo-fi beat music out of a shitty New York apartment. AOL’s recent debut, Swim Team Kush, is an 11 track excursion into the depths of the New York beat scene. Similar to other NYC producer cliques like Bootleg Tapes, Dirty Tapes and Numenon, Swim Team has played a major part in the revival of cassette tape releases in a time when digital streaming and downloading reigns supreme. The results are both overlooked and under appreciated but that doesn’t stop these guys from doing what they love. Although the limited edition cassette tape is sold out, stream Swim Team Kush in full below and see if you dig it. With a song titled Fuck Boy Island how can you not be curious?!

3 September | | instrumental

It’s no secret that Soulection’s IAMNOBODI stays cooking up new sounds. After drinking a lot of coffee and pulling an all-nighter, he kindly dropped off new single, Make Me Say (Wooow). The track, which features smooth vocals from ABUA, is the first taste of a forthcoming project he has in the works. Stay tuned for more information on IAMNOBODI’s next release in the coming weeks.

FWDSLXSH – Yellow (Single)
27 August | | instrumental

While London based producer and Soulection affiliate FWDSLXSH is busy working on his debut EP, Hypetrak got the go ahead to premiere the first single, Yellow. The slow burning, Goapele-sampling tune captures that chill-summer-evening-spent-by-the-pool vibe and the timing couldn’t be better. Give Yellow a listen below and stay tuned for FWDSLXSH’s forthcoming EP, The Fall, which is expected to drop later this year.

Mishka Presents: W2NDCH2LL – Heat Wave/Beach Season (Double Mixtape)
18 August | | instrumental

A few months ago, the folks over at Mishka released WindChill: A Chicago Instrumental Experience, an instrumental project showcasing a handful of talented, Chicago based producers. The response from the first release was so overwhelming they followed it up with a two part mixtape this time, featuring a batch of 32 new producers. The tape is split into two sides: Heat Wave, featuring more old school soul-sampling beats, and Beach Season, featuring more chilled out summer ready beats. Dive in and discover new music from rising producers like BlackKat, OnGaud, Nate Fox, Mulatto Beats, Papi Beatz, Benny Nice, Netherfriends, Walkingshoe and so many more. Head below to stream/download both sides via LiveMixtapes. Props to Ben (@neonpajamas) for handpicking the artists and putting this together.

Fitzroy x STWO – NOIMSAYN (Single)
16 August | | instrumental

Parisian producers Fitzroy and STWO have already made a handful of really great beats together and today they can add another one to their list. Loose single NOIMSAYN is a mellowed out edit that these two made on the late night tip. More proof that the world would be a better place if a Fitzroy x STWO EP eventually existed. Head below to stream NOIMSAYN, along with a new solo track STWO released earlier this week.
