Soular System Vol. 1: Dark Matter[s] is the first in a two part series, with Vol. 2 said to already be halfway finished. Without any guest appearances, the 11 track project features production from Tim Suby, Donnie Trumpet, THEMpeople and more, leaving plenty of room for Jean’s voice to shine. With the release date for her debut project set for next week, Chicago’s Jean Deaux has partnered with Hypetrak to premiere one more track and continue building anticipation. Tim Suby produced the dark, swirling Right Now, which is set to appear on Deaux’s long awaited Soular System mixtape due out on December 17th. Needless to say, I’m excited for this one.

Tapes – Songs To Drake Up To (Mixtape)
10 December | | mixtape

Originally from Knoxville, DJ/producer Tapes now resides in Columbus and makes chilled-out electronic music reminiscent of Giraffage, Sango, and IAMNOBODI. His polished album Finding, which was self released back in August, was a strong sign that Tapes deserves more attention. Then in November he released Songs To Drake Up To, a short mixtape that drew inspiration from a recent break up, Ta-Ku’s Songs To Break Up To EP, and of course, Drake. Just like Ta-Ku and Drake’s music served as a coping mechanism for him, Tapes hopes others will use his music as a form of therapy. Head below to stream/download Songs To Drake Up To in its entirety.

Little Pain – L.I.T.T.L.E. (Mixtape)
2 December | | mixtape

Today marks the release of L.I.T.T.L.E., the second mixtape from Brooklyn rapper, Little Pain. Pain caused quite a stir after the release of his debut last year, catching heat for joking about being depressed and suicidal. After listening to his music more than once through, it’s not hard to see that Pain is just a normal guy dealing with the everyday struggles of life. Backed by production from Nanosaur, SKYWLKR, Michael Uzowuru, Issue, Friendzone, Drip-133, Lord Pusswhip and more, Pain continues to tell his story. Like a lot of the music I post on here, this isn’t for everyone. All I ask is that you really listen before you write it off and start bashing it. Head below to stream L.I.T.T.L.E. in its entirety via The Fader and hit the link to for a free download.

It’s never easy to choose what to write about on Tuesdays, especially with so many great new releases this week in particular. Their unique blend of hip-hop, glitchy electronic and break beat music makes for an interesting combination through out the 14 track mixtape. Get familiar with this talented bunch of artists through the streaming/download link below.

Snapotorious and Kun make up rising Chicago production unit, A Billion Young. A few weeks back, ABY unveiled the Verluxe-directed video for their latest single, Next Door, featuring guest vocals from Teddy Jackson. With Glenwood slated for a November 18th release, I’ve included ABY’s previous single, Day And Night, to hold you over until then.

Swim Team – Swim Team Trax 1 (Compilation)
6 November | | mixtape

New York based collective Swim Team is an interesting crew, made up of mainly producers, including Color Plus, AceMo, Lord $M$, Daddy AOL, Rambow, DJ LILMATT, Kanyon, and rapper Izy. While most of them have at least one solo release under their belt, the rest have a collection of loosies and lengthy mixes stored on Soundcloud. It wasn’t until earlier this week that the whole Swim Team crew came together for their first compilation, Swim Team Trax 1. The 10 track release, which features predominately new music from the entire crew, is available for free download below.
