The Jealous Guys – Make Me A Beat (Video)
13 July | | mixtape

Apparently The Jealous Guys are back?!? I was tipped off by the always-on-point Southern Hospitality crew, who posted the Make A Beat video a few weeks back. Biz Y Casa and Ayinde haven’t lost a step since we last heard from them and based off an image that appears at this end of the video, they are preparing to release a new project sometime during the month of August. Keep your fingers crossed.

KOR x P4K Fest 2015 Mix
10 July | | mixtape

This year marks the ten year anniversary of my favorite live music event, Pitchfork Music Festival. Presenting more than 40 bands over the course of three days in Chicago’s Union Park, Pitchfork manages to secure some of the city’s best local vendors while maintaining very reasonable ticket prices despite an oversaturated local festival circuit.

This year will feature live performances from Wilco, Vic Mensa, Vince Staples, Chance The Rapper, Jamie XX, Clark, A$AP Ferg, Tobias Jesso Jr., Ariel Pink, How To Dress Well, Future Brown, Caribou, CHVRCHES, Run The Jewels, Panda Bear, Todd Terje & The Olsens, Madlib & Freddie Gibbs, ILoveMakonnen, Shamir, Mr. Twin Sister, and so many more. I am honored and excited to be a part of the festival for the third year in a row, which is why I have assembled a mix featuring some of my favorite artists set to perfrom this year. Stream the 18-track mix below and hit the link to purchase a ticket for Friday (Saturday & Sunday are sold out).

Khallee – Crying Diamonds EP
6 July | | mixtape

Chicago singer/songwriter Khallee was first introduced as a member of non-traditional R&B outfit, JODY. After collaborating with the majority of Chicago’s rising talent pool, including the dense Posture (Supreme Cuts’ label) and Lo Motion (The-Drum’s label) crews, Khallee finally got around to releasing his solo debut earlier this month. Titled Crying Diamonds, the seven-track outing finds him honing in on his sparse R&B sound that can only be classified as “experimental.” Production is provided by the likes of Bobby Swan and Boody, with a guest appearance from fellow Chicagoan, Holy Kit. Stream Crying Diamonds below.

Nacho Picasso & 88 Ultra – The Witchtape (Mixtape)
15 May | | mixtape

Earlier this week, 88 Ultra (Kingston of BSBD) and Nacho Picasso reunited to release a new project. Their 10-track mixtape features five new tracks with Nacho, in addition to the five instrumentals to go with them. With a few solid guest from Avatar Darko, Child Actor, and more, The Witchtape is a hybrid of 88 Ultra’s moody, orchestral instrumentals and Nacho’s explicit, drug-filled raps. Head below to stream The Witchtape in its entirety and hit the link to support these guys.

Haleek Maul ft. Kill J – Somebody (Feuer) (Single)
5 May | | mixtape

Brooklyn rapper Haleek Maul unveiled another new song, presumably from his forthcoming Prince Midas project. Featuring vocals from Kill J and production by Cubby and Shy Guy, Somebody (Feuer) stays within the realm of Haleek’s signature post-rap sound, but with a bit more melody this time around. If you’ve been following his 2105 output like me, I think we can all agree it’s time for Prince Midas to drop any day now.

Contour – Street Chasers (Album)
30 April | | mixtape

Purveyors of the underground sound, Chris and the Dusty International crew are always putting me on to new music. They most recently got me hip to Houston producer, Contour, who also happens to be their latest signing. Primarily produced from scratch, his debut album is overflowing with hip-hop and electronic influences alike. Contour even samples his own voice on numerous tracks, helping to carve out his own unique sound within such an innovative label. Somehow, Street Chasers is familiar and foreign to me at the same time, which is why it’s so intriguing. Listen for yourself below and be sure check out the visual aspect of the record HERE.
